5k Training - Week 4

I want to just shake my fists at this whole effing week. I was so exhausted that I kept putting off my workouts as much as I could. I didn't miss a workout, I also didn't give each one my all.

The week did start off great. I had Monday off work so the fam and I went for a jog around the lake. It was gorgeous out which made the workout easier to get through. But about mid-week, I confessed to my husband that training was no longer fun. I didn't care to go to the gym and I began dreading each session. This was definitely my fatigue talking. I could barely muster up the energy to go up and down stairs, let alone run for 40 minutes.

Side note: I happened to notice one night that I had bruises all over my legs - 11 to be exact. I could only account for the time when one of them happened. The other 10? I had no clue how I got them. This same thing happened to me a few times in high school. The diagnosis then? Mild anemia. I called my doctor and he suggested I start taking a multivitamin (which I already do) and up my consumption of eggs and red meat. If the bruises didn't start healing and/or more developed, I was instructed to immediately go in for a blood test. I added 2 eggs to my diet and at least one serving of red meat every day. So far, so good! I don't have any new bruises and the old ones are healing. I'm still going to make an appointment to discuss an iron supplement. I'm not fond of adding that much cholesterol to my diet every day!

Back to training! Once I started to get my iron intake up, I felt a lot better. Still tired, but running didn't seem like an unbearable task. On Friday, I ran 3.10 miles in under 36 minutes. My goal for the 5k is to complete it in 36-40 minutes. I think I'm on track to meet that goal.

I'm in the home stretch of my training program. The last day just so happens to be the day of the race. I'm excited for it to be over!
